Ester Chiessi was born on March 24, 1960, in Rome, Italy. She graduated in chemistry (110/110 cum laude) and received her Ph.D. degree at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Rome, Italy, in 1984 and 1989, respectively. From 1984 to 1986, she was a Researcher at Centro Sviluppo Materiali (Material Development Centre), Pomezia, Rome, Italy, and since 1989, she has been a Physical Chemistry Researcher at the Department of Chemical Sciences and Technologies of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She is a Member of the Italian National Institute for the Physics of Matter (CNISM) and the Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per la Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali (INSTM). She has more than 50 scientific papers in International Journals of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry. Her present research interests are focussed on the study of structural and functional properties of biopolymers and of biocompatible synthetic polymer systems in solution and in gel phase. The dynamics of nonreactive processes in polymer hydrogels, such as chains fluctuations, network thermoresponsivity, and water dynamics, is investigated by neutron scattering experiments, performed at the European scattering facilities. Molecular modeling methods, molecular dynamics, and metadynamics simulations are used to study the water and polymer dynamics in highly hydrated matrix and to obtain a theoretical counterpart for the experimental available results on the same systems.
