Adelio Mendes received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 1993. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He coordinates a large research team with research interests mainly on catalytic membrane reactors, steam reforming, membrane and adsorbent-based gas separations, carbon molecular sieve membranes synthesis, fuel cells, dye-sensitized solar cells, photoelectrochemical cells for hydrogen production, and photocatalysis. Professor Mendes (co)authored more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and filled 18 families of patents. He received the Air Products Faculty Excellence 2011 Award and the Solvay & Hovione Innovation Challenge 2011 prize.
