Kay Tetzlaff was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1961. He received the M.D. degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany, in 1987. He holds titles of a Doctor in medicine and Private Lecturer (Habilitation) since 1992 and 2000, respectively. After medical fellowships in internal and respiratory medicine from 1987 to 1992, he has served as a Consultant in pulmonary medicine at both the German Naval Medical Institute since 1992 and at the 1st Department of Medicine at the University Hospital of Kiel, Germany, since 1995. Since 2000, he has joined Boehringer Ingelheim working in respiratory clinical research. He holds a position of an Associate Professor of medicine at the Department of Sports Medicine, University of Tuebingen, Germany, since 2004. He is mainly interested in COPD research as well as respiratory pathophysiology at hyperbaric pressure.
