LIMS Principal Research Fellow La Trobe Institute for Molecular Sciences | La Trobe University | Victoria 3086 Australia, Australia

Brian J. Smith is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Parkville, Victoria, Australia, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), Parkville, Australia, where he heads the computational chemistry and molecular modeling laboratory. Dr Smith has published widely in the area of computational chemistry and molecular modeling, with more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he is the author of several reviews and has contributed to several chapters in scientific textbooks. His interests include studying enzyme mechanism using quantum mechanical methods and structure-based drug design. He has extensive experience studying small molecule inhibitors of enzymes using X-ray crystallographic methods. His other interests include the development of new methods for computational drug discovery, molecular dynamics studies of toxins and their interactions with ion channels, and computational methods for predicting physical properties of small molecules with specific applications in drug development. Moreover, Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). He is currently the president of the Association of Molecular Modellers of Australasia.
