Martin Hardcastle

Martin Hardcastle holds a B.A. and M.A. degrees in natural sciences (physics); graduated in 1993 and a Ph.D. degree in astrophysics, graduated in 1997, from the University of Cambridge and a B.A. degree in classical studies from the Open University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a member of the Institute of Physics, UK, and the International Astronomical Union. After a short spell as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge, he moved to the University of Bristol and hence to the University of Hertfordshire where he is now a Senior Lecturer. Dr. Hardcastle's principal research interests are in high-energy extragalactic astrophysics, particularly radio-loud active galaxies, groups and clusters, accretion, and microquasars. He works mainly on observations in the X-ray and radio wavebands but has worked on data from gamma-ray, optical and infrared satellites and ground-based telescopes and on numerical modelling and statistics. He is an author on more than 90 papers in the refereed literature.
