Jan Chojnacki serves as a Professor of medicine and the Head of Gastroenterology Department, Medical University of Lodz, Lodz, Poland. He received his Medical degree at Military Medical University of Lodz, Poland. Chojnacki is a specialist of internal medicine and gastroenterology. His main areas of interest include gastrointestinal (GI) pathology with a special focus on the role and metabolism of melatonin and serotonin in the pathogenesis of GI diseases. Chojnacki studied the effects of melatonin introduced as adjuvant therapy to the treatment of functional dyspepsia and ulcerative colitis. Chojnacki was also working on the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer, lower bowel diseases, gastric cancer, and its relation to Helicobacter infection. Part of his studies is related to the involvement of somatostatin receptors in GI cancerogenesis. Chojnacki is one of the leader experts in the pathogenesis of functional diseases of GIT and colorectal cancer. He published over 160 original articles in prestigious Polish and international scientific journals and he serves as a reviewer for papers submitted to gastroenterological journals.
