Randy Poon is a Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also the Director of the Center for Cancer Research and Biosciences Central Research Facility. Professor Poon obtained his M.A. degree at the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. He later obtained his Ph.D. training at the University of Cambridge and Cancer Research UK with Tim Hunt, FRS. Professor Poon then did his postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute with Tony Hunter, FRS. Professor Poon's main research interest is focused on the molecular basis of cell cycle control in normal and cancer cells. With the aim to understand the fundamental process of cell division and to design better cancer therapies, Professor Poon's research team has been studying how the deregulation of the cell cycle contributes to genome instability and cancer development.
