Eduardo Manuel Cuerda-Correa obtained his degree in pharmacy with honors at the University of Granada (Granada, Spain) in 1995. He has also a degree in biology (2002) and a Ph.D. degree with honors in pharmacy (2000). During the period 1998–2000 he worked at the University of Almeria (Almeria, Spain) as a Predoctoral Fellow, supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In 2001 he served as a Guest Member of Staff (Visiting Lecturer) at the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, University of Newcastle (Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK). In 2002 he joined the University of Extremadura (Spain) as an Assistant Lecturer of Inorganic Chemistry. At present, he holds a position of Associate Professor of inorganic chemistry and is the Head of the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry at the same university. Dr Cuerda-Correa has actively participated in several research projects funded by public and private institutions at regional, national, and international level. His research experience focuses on the preparation and characterization of various types of new materials; valorization of wastes, mainly from the agroindustrial field; and environmental remediation. He has coauthored 46 articles published in journals indexed in the JCR and over 50 communications in national and mostly international conferences. Dr Cuerda-Correa has also acted as a Guest Editor of two special issues of Fuel Processing Technology (Volume 92(2), February 2011; Volume 103, November 2012) and one of Applied Surface Science (Volume 252(17), June 2006). He has been a Member of the organizing and/or scientific committees of several national and international conferences (e.g., the CIIEM series that reaches its fifth edition in 2013; the 1st International Congress on Water, Waste and Energy Management held in Salamanca in May 2012; and the XI Meeting of the Spanish Carbon Group held in Badajoz in November 2011).
