Lucia Lopalco
Lucia Lopalco obtained her PhD in 1983 in Immunology and Microbiology at University of Pavia, Italy. She carried out her post-doctoral training at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Veterinary Medicine, Milan, Italy till 1985. Then she moved to the Department of Biology and Genetic for Medical Science, University of Milan, Italy. In 1990 she moved to the Institute of Cancer Research, Chester Beatty Laboratories in London directed by John P. Moore as a Visiting Scientist. Since 1991 she has been working at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan and since 2000 she has been heading the Immunobiology of HIV Unit as head of research unit. In 2005 she moved to Duke University Medical Center, Durham , NC for a sabbatical year as Visiting Professor. Her research interest is focused on HIV/AIDS and in particular on viral host interaction and on immunological mechanisms of natural protection against HIV infection. Recently, her research interest has extended in the area of mucosal immunology and in particular in the generation of a vaccine to prevent HIV sexual transmission. She is author of 81 original articles published in peer-reviewed journals with a H index 28 and she is ad hoc reviewer of 24 indexed international journals including BLOOD, J. of Immunology, Retrovirology, AIDS and so on.
