Umberto Laforenza received his M.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of Pavia, Pavia, Lombardy, Italy, in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree in physiology, in 1992. Laforenza serves as as a Tenured Assistant Professor at the Section of Human Physiology, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Pavia, Pavia, Lombardy, Italy. His research interests include expression and functioning of ryanodine receptors and calcium channels in the frog semicircular canals and in mammal endothelial cells; expression and functioning of some aquaporins in the gastrointestinal tract and human adipose tissue by using the techniques of western blot, RT-PCR, and immunofluorescence; effects of some gastrointestinal hormones on the gastric H+-K+-ATPase activity and on the aquaporin-4 expression by using PYY-Tag transgenic mice as experimental model. In addition, Laforenza's scientific production is documented by 110 papers, 52 full papers published on leading international journals. He is also a Member of the Italian Physiological Society (SIF).
