Eun Bo Shim
Eun Bo Shim is a Professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at the Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, Republic of Korea, and the Director at the National Research Laboratory on Biosystems Engineering. He finished undergraduate course at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea and received two Ph.Ds. : a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1994 and a Ph.D. degree in physiology from the School of Medicine, Kyoto University (Japan),in 2008. He is the Director of the National Research Laboratory (NRL) on Biosystems Engineering funded by the Korean Government. The NRL on Biosystems Engineering is one of very few national research laboratories in the Republic of Korea and a center of national excellence in research. He has served as General Secretary of the Korean Physiome Society, which is the leading Korean professional society to address mathematical modeling in physiology. He is currently a Committee Member of the Fluid Dynamics Division and the Biomedical Engineering Division of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is a Member of the Korean National Research Foundation’s review board where he reviews all applications for funding in the areas of biomechanics, fluid engineering, and aeronautics. (The National Research Foundation is the Korean equivalent to the U.S. National Science Foundation.) Over the years, he has spent research sabbaticals at leading international universities, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Medical School, and the University of New South Wales, Australia. His major research interest is computational modeling of physiological phenomena.
