David Posada

David Posada received a B.S. degree in biology (1994) from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, an M.S. degree in genetics (1996) from the University of Vigo, Spain, and a Ph.D. degree in zoology (2001) from Brigham Young University, Utah, USA, at the laboratory of Keith Crandall. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as a senior scientist in statistical genetics at Variagenics Inc. (USA). In addition, he has been a visiting scientist at Oxford University (UK, 2000) and MIT (USA, 2002). In 2003, he returned to the University of Vigo under the Ramon and Cajal program of the Spanish Government. Since 2007, he is an Associate Professor of genetics at this university, where is the Head of the Molecular Evolution and Bioinformatics Research Group (http://darwin.uvigo.es). His contributions have focused on different aspects of models of molecular evolution and their application in phylogenetics and on the detection and characterization of recombination from DNA sequence alignments. He is the author of very popular bioinformatic tools like ModelTest and the Editor of the book Bioinformatics for DNA Sequence Analysis (Humana Press, 2009). His programs have more than 50 000 users, and his work has been cited more than 7000 times, being an ISI Highly Cited Researcher in molecular biology and genetics. In addition, he is an Associate Editor for Evolution and Journal of Molecular Evolution, and he is a member of the editorial board of several international journals.
