Yu-kui Gao received his B.S.E degree in materials science and engineering, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, Yanshan University, Qinghuangdao, China and the M.S. degree in materials science from the same university, and the Ph. D. degree in materials science from Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, Beijing, China, which was under the title of “Effect of surface strengthening on fatigue crack initiation and small crack growth.” From March 2000 to April 2010, he served as a Surface Strengthening Treatment Group Leader, Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials. From April 2010 to February 2011, he worked as a Visiting Scientist to investigate surface nanocrystallization and surface characterization of metals, Risø, National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark. From May 2012 to date, he works as a Professor, Tongji University, Shanghai, China. His interests include surface process and optimization, residual stresses measurement (XRD) and simulation (FEM), mechanical behaviors of materials during fatigue processes (fatigue crack initiation and propagation/growth), microstructure and crystal orientation development, and evolvement during fatigue processes by EBSD.
