Akihide Ohkuchi graduated at the Department of Medicine, Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, Tochigi, Japan in March 1987. He received a Ph.D. degree in 2001 from Jichi Medical University for a thesis entitled “Predicting the risk of pre-eclampsia and a small-for-gestational-age infant by quantitative assessment of the diastolic notch in uterine artery flow velocity waveforms in unselected women”. He was appointed Junior Resident in 1987 at Toyama Prefectural Central Hospital, Toyama, Japan and was appointed Assistant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tochigi, Japan in 1998. In 2002, Ohkuchi became a Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jichi Medical University School of Medicine. Since 2007, he serves as Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, and since 2009 he serves as Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Haga Red Cross Hospital, Tochigi, Japan. He is a board member of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (since 1988), the Japanese Vascular and Medecine Organization (since 2005), the Japan Society for Immunology of Reproduction (since 1998), the Japanese Society of Hypertension (since 2009), and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (since 2004). He is also a councilor of the Japan Society of Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine (since 1994) and the Japan Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy (since 1990).
