Hugo Gutiérrez-De-Terán received his B.S. degree in pharmacy (1999) from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and a Ph.D. degree in life and health sciences (2004) from the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), under the supervision of Ferran Sanz, working on the structural modeling of G protein coupled receptors and ligand design. It followed a Postdoc period at Uppsala University with Johan Åqvist (2004-2006), where he specialized in the development and use of free energy calculations in the field of drug design. It followed a “Parga Pondal” research fellowship (2007) to start the structural bioinformatics and drug design unit at the University Hospital of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), which he was running until 2013. He was also visiting scientist at the Script Research Institute (2012). His major research interests are the structural characterization and ligand design of G protein coupled receptors, the applications of free energy calculations in computer-aided drug design, and the ligand discovery on neglected diseases.
