Rosaria Volpini was born in Camerino, Italy, in 1962. She received the a degree in medicinal chemistry and technology (summa cum laude,1990), a degree in pharmacy (summa cum laude, 1995), and the Ph.D degree (1994) from the University of Camerino, Italy. In 1994, she was a Doctoral Fellow at the School of Chemistry, University of Birmingham (UK). From 1995 to 1999, Volpini worked as a Research Fellow, and then she got the position of an Associate Researcher and a Charged Professor of medicinal chemistry (1999–2005) at the Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Camerino. Since 2005, she has been an Associate Professor of medicinal chemistry. Her scientific production focuses on the synthesis of nucleosides, nucleotides, and heterocycles and on the study of their biological activity as agonists and antagonists of the P1 and P2 purinergic receptors, platelet aggregation inhibitors, antiviral and antitumor agents, and enzyme inhibitors. She is Member of the Editorial Board of Recent Patents on CNS Drug Discovery and a Member of the International Society of Nucleosides, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acid, Italian Chemical Society Medicinal Chemistry Division, and a Councillor of the Italian Purine Club.
