Liangpei Zhang received the B.S. degree in physics from Hunan Normal University, ChangSha, China, in 1982, the M.S. degree in optics from the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi’an, China, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in photogrammetry and remote sensing from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, in 1998. From 1997 to 2000, he was a Professor in the School of the Land Sciences, in Wuhan University. In August 2000, he joined the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping, and Remote Sensing,Wuhan University, as a Professor and Head of the Remote Sensing section. His research interests include hyperspectral remote sensing, high-resolution remote sensing, image processing, and artificial intelligence. He is also an Associate Editor of Geospatial Information Science Journal. Prof. Zhang has served as Cochair of the International Society for Optical Engineers (SPIE) Series Conferences on Multispectral Image Processing and Pattern Recognition (MIPPR), the Conference on Asia Remote Sensing in 1999, Editor of the MIPPR01, MIPPR05 Symposium, and Chinese National Committee for the International Geosphere–Biosphere Programme.
