Ahmed Mekkawy

Ahmed H. Mekkawy obtained his Ph.D. in the Molecular Biology from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia in 2011. His thesis investigated the molecular mechanisms of bone metastasis related to the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor. He proved for the first time the novel interaction between the urokinase receptor and other proteins that influence a range of biological functions. Ahmed won the best basic science poster presentation prize from St George and Sutherland Hospital symposium for two consecutive years (2009, 2010), as well as the postgraduate research prize in Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW (2010). Moreover, he awarded the 2010 Dean's List - the highest award presented by the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW to any undergraduate and postgraduate student. In 2012, he got the Dean’s rising star award from the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW, the award acknowledge outstanding achievements of post doctoral staff.
