Ligia Rodrigues has a Ph.D. degree in chemical and biological engineering (2005), an M.S. degree in bioprocess engineering (2001), and a degree in biological engineering (1997) from the University of Minho, Portugal. She performed her postdoctoral studies (2006/2007) at Minho, Porto and Lund (Sweden) Universities. She published several articles in international journals under the scope of her research activities. As part of her research activities, she is the Project Leader of 3 research projects and is involved in other 4, cosupervises 2 Posdoc, 3 Ph.D., 7 M.S., and 3 research students. Moreover, she keeps close collaboration with several national and international research groups and companies. Currently, her research interests are biosurfactants, synthetic biology, breast cancer, biomaterials and adhesion phenomena, bioprocess development, and functional food. She is presently an Assistant Professor at the Biological Engineering Department at the University of Minho. She is one of the founders and CEO (2005–2007) and presently the CTO of the spin-off BIOTEMPO, Ltd. She is an experienced consultant on food safety and in the development of new products and technologies. Additionally, she has complementary education in fields of entrepreneurship, finances, marketing, and leadership, among others.
