Zhiping Xu received his B.S. (2002) and Ph.D. (2007) degrees from the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Tsinghua University. He then worked at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, Rice University (2007-2008), and at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2008-2010) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. Xu returned to Tsinghua as an Associate Professor in 2010 and started the Computational Energetics Laboratory (CEL). His current research is focused on energetic processes in nanoscale and biological materials and their applications in energy and environmental development.
