Pedro M. Lima

Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal

My research experience started 1990, when I obtained my PhD and became an assistant professor of the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico (, which is part of the Technical University of Lisbon ( Since its foundation in 1995 I am also a member of the research centre CEMAT ( My main field of research is numerical analysis. In the beginning of my career (when preparing the PhD Thesis and the first 2 years after doctorate) I have worked on computational methods for solving the Scrödinger equation for complex atoms. After this, I have worked in different fields, including: asymptotic and numerical analysis of ordinary differential equations, numerical analysis of Volterra integral equations; analytical and numerical investigation of mixed type (forward-backward) functional differential equations. The mathematical problems I have been concerned about arise from different applications, such as electronic structure of atoms, interfaces in fluid mixtures and nerve conduction. I teach several subjects in the field of Computational Mathematics to students of different profiles (Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, etc.) at different levels, including Master and PhD program.
