Pedro M. Lima

Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal

My research experience started 1990, when I obtained my PhD and became an assistant professor of the Department of Mathematics of Instituto Superior Técnico (www.ist.utl.pt), which is part of the Technical University of Lisbon (www.utl.pt). Since its foundation in 1995 I am also a member of the research centre CEMAT (www.cemat.ist.utl.pt). My main field of research is numerical analysis. In the beginning of my career (when preparing the PhD Thesis and the first 2 years after doctorate) I have worked on computational methods for solving the Scrödinger equation for complex atoms. After this, I have worked in different fields, including: asymptotic and numerical analysis of ordinary differential equations, numerical analysis of Volterra integral equations; analytical and numerical investigation of mixed type (forward-backward) functional differential equations. The mathematical problems I have been concerned about arise from different applications, such as electronic structure of atoms, interfaces in fluid mixtures and nerve conduction. I teach several subjects in the field of Computational Mathematics to students of different profiles (Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, etc.) at different levels, including Master and PhD program.
