Peter McGovern

Peter McGovern, a holder of an M.D. degree, has a full-time academic appointment as a Professor, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He is the Director of the Division of REI and also Fellowship Director in REI. He is the Medical Director of the IVF Program at the University Reproductive Associates in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, USA. He completed medical school at the New York University followed by residency in OB/GYN at NYU/Bellevue Medical Center. He completed REI Fellowship at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and was on faculty at Medical College of Pennsylvania and New York Medical College before returning as faculty at UMDNJ-Newark in 1994. Since 1999, he has directed both the Division and the Fellowship in REI. As faculty, he has received awards for excellence in teaching and for humanism. Dr. McGovern has been an Active Member of ASRM since 1990 and SREI since 1998. He is the current President of the New York Obstetrical Society, serving from May 2010 through May 2011. He is a Member of the curriculum committee for ASRM. Dr. McGovern was PI of the New Jersey Medical School site and a Member of the Steering Committee for the Reproductive Medicine Network from 2000 to 2007. He served as a Member of their DSMB. He was a Coinvestigator for the NJMS site of the WHI trial. He serves as an Examiner for the American Board of OB/GYN in both General OB/GYN and REI and as Ad Hoc Reviewer for numerous journals (Obstet Gynecol, J Clin Endocrinol Metab, Am J Obstet Gynecol, Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol, etc.). He served as an Ad Hoc Member of the NIH ICER Study section. He is currently on the Editorial Board of Fertility and Sterility. Dr. McGovern’s research interests span clinical REI, but have focused mostly on IVF and IUI as treatments for infertility and PCOS. He has received grant support from NIH, Ferring, and Serono.
