Ananda Rajitha Wickremasinghe University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka Ananda Rajitha Wickremasinghe was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1961. He received the MBBS degree from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1985. He received the Master of Public Health degree majoring in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University, USA in 1987. He obtained the PhD in Epidemiology for Tulane University, USA in May 1992 and the PhD in Biometry with Genetics as a minor from the Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans, USA in December 1992. From December 1992 to July 1995, Professor Wickremasinghe was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka. From August 1995 to December 2003, he was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. Since January 2004, he has been the Professor of Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He is also the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya since August 2006. He is mainly interested in tropical diseases such as malaria and emerging diseases of the third world including non-communicable diseases.
