Giacomo Savini was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1969. He received the medicine degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Bologna in 1993. In the same university, he also completed his residency in Ophthalmology in 1997. Since then, he specialized in anterior segment surgery (cataract, glaucoma, and refractive surgery). In clinical research, his main fields of interests are ocular surface diseases (such as dry eye), retina and optic nerve diseases study by optical coherence tomography (OCT), and intraocular lens power calculation for cataract surgery. The training experiences out of Italy, and particularly at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of Miami, and the collaboration with colleagues from all over the world have stimulated the passion for clinical research, which led to the publication of more than 50 papers on peer-reviewed journals since 2004. In March 2008, he opened the Studio Oculistico d’Azeglio, a private practice in Bologna, Italy. Since 2009, he is a Research Associate of G.B. Bietti Eye Foundation IRCCS in Rome, Italy.
