Peter Matt serves as an Assistant Professor of cardiovascular surgery, University Hospital Basel, since 2011, Swiss Board of cardiovascular surgery (FMH) in 2010, European Board of cardiothoracic surgery (FETCS) in 2008, and Staff Cardiac Surgeon at Division of Cardiac Surgery Hospital Basel (Dr. F. Eckstein, Dr. T. Carrel) since 2008. From 2006 to 2007, he received a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore (Dr. HC. Dietz, Dr. JE. Van Eyk) and served as a Collaborator at the Proteomics Research Laboratory, University Hospital Basel (Dr. I. Lefkovits) since 2003. He completed his M.D. thesis in 2001 with award, medical studies from 1994-2000 in Basel, Switzerland, and Paris, France. He received a variety of awards: 2010 Award Swiss Society Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, 2009, Top 10 Research in 2009 awarded from the American Heart Association (AHA) for the publication of "Circulating TGFbeta in Marfan Syndrome," 2009, Top 4 Research in 2009 awarded from the AHA Functional Genomics and Translational Biology Council for the publication of "Circulating TGFbeta in Marfan Syndrome," 2008 Best Publication Award from the Division of Cardiac Surgery Basel, and 2001 M.D. thesis award, Medical Faculty University Basel, 1994 Euler and Novartis Awards, Basel. He receives different grants from a variety of institutional (e.g., Swiss National Foundation, Departement Chirurgie Basel) and private organisations (e.g., Novartis, Hippocrate Stiftung) for research focussing on aortic disease, Marfan Syndrome, acquired valve disease, and invasive cardiac therapy in elderly patients.
