Toshiharu Kagawa was born in Shizuoka-ken, Japan, in 1950. He received the Ph.D. degree in control and system engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), Tokyo, Japan, in 1986, and he had one-year research experience in RWTH Aachen, Germany. After working for several years, he returned to TIT and was promoted to Full Professor in 1996. His main research interests lie in process control and compressible fluid measurement and control and extended to energy-saving research and pneumatic noncontact handling device recently. He is devoted to society activities (FLUCOME). He had been the President of Japan Society for Simulation Technology (JSST, 2004–2006) and the President of Japan Fluid Power System Society (since 2012). He is also recommended as the Fellow of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers.
