Fernando Lopez Arbeloa
Fernando Lopez Arbeloa was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1958. He received a degree in chemistry from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, in 1981. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in science from the Katholieke Universiteit van Leuven, Belgium, in 1987 under the supervision of Professor Dr. F. C. De Schryver. After his reincorporation at the University of the Basque Country, he became a Full Professor in physical chemistry in 2002. His research field is related to the spectroscopic properties of fluorescent dyes, mainly those used in tunable dye lasers. He serves as an Expert in UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence techniques and has characterized the photophysical properties of several laser dyes (coumarins, rhodamines, pyrromethenes, etc.) in liquid solvents and in nanostructured materials, such as clay minerals, in colloidal suspensions and in organized solid films. He developed a new fluorescence polarization method to evaluate the orientation of dye adsorbed in organized 2D layered materials.
