Banshi D. Gupta

Banshi Gupta received his M.S. degree in physics (1975) from the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India, and the Ph.D. degree (1979) from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. In 1980, he joined the faculty of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he is currently a Professor of physics. Professor Gupta has also worked at the University of Guelph (Canada) between 1982 and 1983, the University of Toronto (Canada) in 1985, and the Florida State University (USA) in 1988. In 1993, he visited the University of Strathclyde (UK) under the Indo-British Fibre Optics Project. In 1992, Gupta was awarded an Associateship by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. Moreover, he is a recipient of 1991 Gowri Memorial Award of IETE (India). He has published about 70 research papers in international journals and authored a book entitled Fiber Optic Sensors: Principles and Applications (NIPA New Delhi, 2006). Professor Gupta works as a Coeditor of Proceedings of SPIE (USA), vol.3666 (1998). He is a Regular Member of the OSA (USA) and Life Member of the OSI and the Indian Chapter of ICTP.
