Li-Mei Chen received her M.D. degree from Hunan Medical University (Changsha, China) in 1986 and her Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC, USA) in 1997. Currently, she is a Research Associate Professor at the College of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, University of Central Florida. She has coauthored over 40 peer-reviewed research articles. Chen is a member of the Society for Basic Urologic Research since 2005. Her research areas of interest include epithelial tight junctions and signal transduction, developmental biology, inflammation, cardiovascular biology, and cancer biology. The Florida Biomedical Research Program and the National Institutes of Health have funded Chen's research. She has reviewed manuscripts for journals and served as a Review Panel Member for the National Science Foundation.
