Jeomshik Hwang is a Faculty Member at the POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) Ocean Science & Technology Institute, Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea. He graduated from the Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea, and earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Irvine, CA, USA, under the tutelage of Professor Ellen R. M. Druffel. His research is focused on understanding organic carbon cycling in the ocean using carbon isotopes, lipid biomarkers, and biogeochemical tracers. His research interests include biogeochemistry of organic compound classes (lipids, amino acids, carbohydrates, and nonhydrolyzable fraction), influence of ancient organic matter from continents on oceanic carbon cycle, redistribution of organic matter by lateral advection on the continental margin, molecular characterization of organic matter, and climate change and its impact on oceanic carbon cycle.
