Sadanandan E. Velu
Sadanandan E. Velu has received his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry at the University of Madras in 1993. He completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Alabama and at the Clemson University. Currently, he is working as a Tenured Associate Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also holds coappointments as an Associate Scientist in Comprehensive Cancer Center and Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has authored/coauthored 36 research publications in peer-reviewed journals and is an inventor/coinventor of 5 US patents. He is a Member of the American Chemical Society, American Association of Cancer Research, and American Heart Association. His organic chemistry course was honored as an example of best practices in a national study of chemistry courses conducted by the Center for Educational Policy Research on behalf of the College Board in 2005. His research interests are in the following areas: organic and medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development, anticancer and anti-infective agents, structure-based drug design, fragment-based drug discovery, in silico virtual screening, structure activity relationship studies and lead optimization, and synthesis of marine natural products and their analogs.
