Paul Arnold serves as a Professor of neurosurgery and as a Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Center. He has been at the University of Kansas Medical Center since 1993, attaining the rank of professor in 2004. He is on the Editorial Boards of eight peer-reviewed journals, including Surgical Neurology International, Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques, The Spine Journal, Spine, and Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine. He is a Member of numerous scientific and professional organizations, including AOSpine North America, AOSpine International, AANS, CNS, NASS, AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, and the Spine Trauma Study Group. He has given nearly 250 podium and poster presentations at national and international meetings. He has been an invited instructor at numerous international spine courses, and he has published over 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals, more than 25 book chapters, and numerous invited commentaries and book reviews. He has eleven open, ongoing studies, including those on the latest biologics (rh-BMP in cervical fusion), the testing and modification of spinal implants, and reduction of symptoms using a gel after lumbar discectomy.
