Jiŕina Slaninovà received her RNDr degree in chemistry from Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic (1972), and CS degree in biochemistry from Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB). During 1976–1995, she worked as a Research Worker at the Department of Peptide Biochemistry, IOCB; 1995–2003, a Head of the Department of Peptide Biochemistry, IOCB; and 2003–2006, a Head of the Biologically Active Peptides group, IOCB. Since 2007, she has been a Senior Research Worker in the Department of Antimicrobial Peptides. From 1981 to 1982, she spent 1 year study stay with Prof. N.A.Thorn at Department of Medical Physiology C, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark; and during 1990–1992, she had several stays in USA with Prof. H.I.Yamamura at the Department of Pharmacology, Neuroscience, and Psychiatry, University of Arizona, Ariz, USA. Since 1996, she has been a Member of Advisory Board of the journal Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences (CMLS) (formerly Experientia); 1982, a Member of the European Peptide Society; 2002, a National Representative of the Czech Republic in the European Peptide Society; 1988, a Member of Organizing Committees of National Meetings “Biological Active Peptides” (bianually); 1989, a Reading Specialized Lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, and at the Southern Bohemia University, Ceske Budejovice; 1997, a Member of the Committee for awarding Ph.D. degrees; 2003, a Member of Advisory Board of J.Peptide Science; and since 2004, a Chairperson of the 3rd International and 28th EPS in Prague. She worked in collaboration with Prof. G.Barany, Minnesota University, Prof. P.Cordopatis, Patras, Greece, Prof. F.Fahrenholz, University of Mainz, Germany, Prof. B.Lammek, Gdansk University, Poland, Dr. J.Howl, Wolverhampton, England, Prof. V.J.Hruby, Arizona University, Prof. S. Lavielle, Paris University, France, Dr. E.Livaniou, Athens, Greece, and Prof.W.D.Lubell, Montral, Canada. She authored or coauthored more than 170 papers since 1972. The 4 research projects she is involved in concern structure activity studies of peptides and are as follows: Insect antimicrobial peptides, Neurohypophyseal Hormone Analogues, Peptides Affecting Regulation of Food Intake, Neuroprotective and Neurotoxic Peptides.
