David P. Piñero
David P. Piñero holds degrees in optics and optometry and documentation from the University of Alicante, Alicante, Spain, and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain, respectively. Piñero got his Ph.D. degree in 2010 with a thesis titled “Characterization and modeling of the effect of intrastromal ring segments in ectatic corneas” from the University of Alicante. He is a University Specialist in pre- and postsurgical optometry at the University of Valladolid, Valladolid, Spain. Piñero works as a Teacher in the Department of Optics, Pharmacology, and Anatomy at the University of Alicante. He gained a wide clinical and research experience from Oftalmar (Medimar International Hospital), University Clinic of Navarra, Navarra, Spain, and other institutions. His areas of expertise include refractive surgery, anterior segment, contact lenses, orthoptics, low vision, and corneal biomechanics. He has more than 100 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals and more than 20 book chapters. He participated in more than 20 research projects. He is a Member of the research group Grupo de Óptica y Percepción Visual (GOPV), University of Alicante; a Member of the University Institute of Applied Physics to Science and Technologies (IUFACyT), at the same university; Associate Editor in Chief of Journal of Optometry; and Associate Editor of BMC Ophthalmology.
