Guglielmo R.D. Villani
Guglielmo R.D. Villani was born in Turin, Italy, in 1962. He received the Biological Sciences degree (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, in 1988 and 1998, respectively. In 1990, he was a Research Fellow at National Center for Toxicological Research, Ark, USA. Since 1993, he works at the Laboratory for the Study and Diagnosis, the Mucopolysaccharidoses, Department of Biochemistry and Medical Biotechnologies, Medical School, University of Naples Federico II, Italy. Since 1999, he serves as a Researcher of biochemistry at the same department. Since 2005, he became the Biologist Manager of the Diagnostic Service called Molecular diagnoses of the Mucopolysaccharidoses at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, the University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy. Since 1999, he is Member of the European Study Group on Lysosomal Diseases (ESGLD) and of the Italian Society of Biochemistry. He is mainly interested in lysosomal diseases: Mucopolysaccharidoses (particularly MPS IIIA, Sanfilippo disease type A, and MPS IIIB, Sanfilippo disease type B) and, more recently, Fabry’s disease.
