Laura Brighina holds M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and serves currently as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurology of the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza, Italy. She received her MD from the University of Milano in 1999 and completed her neurology residency program in 2004. In 2008, she earned her Ph.D. degree in neuroscience at the International Graduate School of the “Vita-Salute” San Raffaele University in Milano, under the supervision of Professor Carlo Ferrarese. As part of her international Ph.D. Program, she spent a whole year working as a Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn, USA, under the supervision of Professor Demetrius Maraganore. Her research is focused on the molecular epidemiology of Parkinson‘s disease (study of gene/gene and gene/environment interactions), and the identification of potential biomarkers of early diagnosis and clinical progression of PD and the other parkinsonism using genomic, proteomic, or metabolomic approaches.
