Giuliano Armano obtained his Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Genoa, Italy, in 1990. He is currently Associate Professor of computer engineering at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE), University of Cagliari, leading also the IASC (Intelligent Agents and Soft Computing) group. His educational background ranges over expert systems and machine learning, whereas his current research activity is focused on (i) proactive and adaptive behavior of intelligent agents and (ii) hybrid genetic-neural architectures and systems. The above research topics are mainly experimented in the field of bioinformatics, in particular for designing and implementing algorithms for multiple alignment and protein secondary structure prediction.
