Jorge Manuel Miranda Dias

Jorge Manuel Miranda Dias was born on March 7, 1960, in Coimbra, Portugal. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Coimbra, with a specialization in control and instrumentation (November 1994). Dias performs his research activities at the System and Robotics Institute (Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica), the University of Coimbra. His research area is computer vision and robotics, with activities and contributions to the field since 1984. He has several publications in scientific reports, conferences, journals, and book chapters. Dias teaches several engineering courses at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra. He is responsible for courses on computer vision, robotics, industrial automation, microprocessors, and digital systems. Also, he is responsible for the supervision of M.S. and Ph.D. students in the field of computer vision and robotics. Dias is currently the Director of Laboratory of Systems and Automation (formerly LAT) at the Technology Transfer Institute (IPN - Instituto Pedro Nunes). He was a main Researcher in projects financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, European Community, and NATO Science Programs.
