Xin-Lin Gao
Xin-Lin Gao is currently an Associate Professor in mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering at Texas A&M University. He is also a Chair Professor (Visiting) at East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai. His other experience includes teaching at the Michigan Technological University for four years and working at the Air Force Institute of Technology and the Air Force Research Laboratory on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH for about 2.5 years. In addition, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Paris-East in May-June 2010. He received an M.S. degree in engineering mechanics in May 1997 and a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering (with a minor in mathematics) in May 1998, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has conducted research in a variety of areas in mechanics and materials and is an author/coauthor of 73 published journal papers, 1 book chapter, and 79 conference publications. His research has been funded by NSF, AFOSR, AFRL, Army, DOE, and industries. He has been a PI or co-PI of funded research projects worth over $7.2M. He has been a reviewer for 74 international journals, 8 publishers, and 12 funding organizations and has organized 16 symposia at major technical conferences. He has been a guest editor of three special issues for technical journals. He has been an ASME Fellow since January 2011. He currently serves on four technical committees in three divisions (Applied Mechanics, Materials, and Aerospace) of ASME. He served as the Chair of the ASME/Boeing Structures and Materials Best Paper Award Committee in 2006 and 2007. He has also been serving on the Advanced Materials and Structures technical committee of ASCE since 2006.
