Norihide Yokoi serves as an Associate Professor in the Division of Molecular and Metabolic Medicine, Department of Physiology and Cell Biology, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe, Japan. He received the Ph.D. degree in medicine from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1998. Yokoi is an expert in molecular genetics of both type1 and type 2 diabetes. During his research career, he has successfully identified a major susceptibility gene in an animal model of type 1 diabetes, Komeda diabetes-prone (KDP) rat. He has also revealed major susceptibility loci in a novel animal model of type 2 diabetes, spontaneously diabetic Torii (SDT) rat. Yokoi published 47 papers in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of 70 abstracts in national and international conferences/workshops. He is a Councilor of the Japanese Association for Laboratory Animal Science, an Advisor of Kansai Laboratory Animal Research Association, and a Member of both the Japan Diabetes Society and the Japan Society of Experimental Diabetes and Obesity.
