Xiaozhou Liao conducted his Ph.D. research under the supervision of Professor David Cockayne in the University of Sydney, Australia, from 1997 to 1999, and received his Ph.D. degree in 2000. He moved to USA taking up a Director-Funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2001 and was a Research Scientist at the University of Chicago from 2004 to 2006. He was offered a lectureship in the University of Sydney in 2006 and is now an Associate Professor at the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, University of Sydney. His research interest focuses on electron microscopy characterization of advanced structural and functional materials, materials structure-property relationship, and nanomaterials. He has published over 140 papers in prestigious international journals including Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, Advanced Materials, Acta Materialia, and Applied Physics Letters.
