Maurizio Mazzei received his D.V.M. degree from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1997. In 1999, he obtained the Ph.D. degree. Since 2004, he has been a Researcher at the Department of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy. His teaching activities focus on microbiology and veterinary virology. His main research interests are directed to the development and application of new diagnostic tests, epidemiology, strategies of control and eradication, and development of new strategies of vaccination against viral diseases of animals. At the moment, his research activities are directed towards lentiviral infections of sheep and goats, the zoonotic role of hepatitis E virus (HEV), and viral infections of bees.
