Ergina Kavallieratou

Ergina Kavallieratou was born in Kefalonia, Greece, in 1973. She received her Diploma in electrical and computer engineering in 1996 from the Polytechnic School of the University of Patras and her Ph.D. degree in handwritten optical character recognition and document image processing from the same department in 2000. During the academic year 1997-1998 she was a member of the Signals, Systems and Radiocomunications Laboratory of the Department of Telecommunications Engineering of the Polytechnic School of Madrid, while in the years 2000 and 2001, she joined as guest researcher the Institute of Communication Acoustics of Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum, Germany. She visited as guest researcher the Computer Science & Engineering Department of Lehigh University, USA in 2009 and the Center of Computer Vision of Autonomy University of Barcelona, in 2011. During the years 2002-2004, she had a position as Assistant Professor of audio processing in Department of Audio and Musical Instruments Technology in Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands, Greece. Since September 2004, she is a Lecturer in the University of the Aegean. Her research interests include optical character recognition, document image analysis, digital image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition. She has written more than 35 papers in these fields and has given lectures as Guest Lecturer in the Universities of Bochum (2001), Barcelona (2002), Genova (2006), and Valencia (2010).
