He was born in Wuhan, China, in 1969. He received his Doctoral Degree of Medical Science in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Gunma University School of Medicine, Japan, in 2000. He was an exchange doctoral student of nuclear medicine (under supervision of Prof. Keith Britton) in St. Bartholomew’s Hospital of the University of London in UK from 1998-1999, and a postdoctoral fellow supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) from 2000-2002, in Japan. From 2002-2004, He has been working at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS) in Japan as a Senior Medical Scientist. Currently, he is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Director of the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at Zhejiang University, and Director of Center of Excellence of Medical Molecular Imaging of Zhejiang Province, China. Dr. Hong Zhang plays an important role as the President of International Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Standing Member of Chinese Society of Nuclear Medicine and President-Elect of Society of Nuclear Medicine of Zhejiang Province in China. His research focuses on functional diagnostic imaging in oncology, neurology, stem cell and gene imaging, imaging probe development for PET, MRI and optical imaging. He is the recipients of five Awards from the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine (JSNM), Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), respectively. He serves as the Editorial Board Members of European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Nuclear Medicine Communications, Annuals of Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, World Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine and ONCOLOGY.
