Piero Castoldi has been an Associate Professor in telecommunications at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa, Italy, since 2001. He has held, as an Instructor, several courses at undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Parma, at the Scuola Superiore Sant'anna, and at the University of Tunis. He is currently Coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus MAsters on Photonic NETworks engineering (MAPNET) and Vice President of the M.S. (Laurea Magistrale) course in computer science and networking. His research activities have covered the areas of architectures, traffic engineering, reliability and switching techniques for optical networks, as well as service-oriented network architectures, including the experimental aspects. He has been involved in several national projects as a Research Unit Coordinator and has also been involved with the research unit, responsible for several European projects (NOBEL, NOBEL2, STRONGEST, e-photon/ONE, e-photon/ONE+, BONE). He also has been coordinator of the research activity of several corporate-sponsored projects (with Ericsson and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana). He is currently Coordinator of the communications macro-area and Area Leader of the networks and services area at the Institute of Communication, Information and Perception Technologies at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa. He was also Director of the National Laboratory of Photonic Networks, run by CNIT in Pisa, for the period 2005-2010. Dr. Castoldi has been Member of the Technical Program of several international conferences (ICC, Globecom, ICTON, etc.) and he is currently Executive Editor for the European Transactions on Emerging Telecommunication Technologies (ETT), published by Wiley. He is author of more than 55 publications in international journals or magazine and more than 200 in international conference proceedings and he is single author of the book Multiuser Detection in CDMA Mobile Terminals (Artech House, 2002). He is also coauthor of 12 filed patents.
