Akio Mizutani was born on April the 4th, 1964 in Kyoto, Japan. Mizutani received the M.D. (1990), Ph.D. (2000) degrees from the Oita Medical University, Oita, Japan, and was licensed for medical practice in Japan. Currently, he is Director of anesthesiology, Oba Orthopedics. He received the Respiratory special Award, at the 34th Society of Critical Care Medicine Congress (2005) and the Travel Grant Awards, at the 28th Annual Conference on Shock (Coinvestigator) (2005). His major research interests are ischemia- and reperfusion-induced acute renal injury, burn-induced acute lung injury. Activation of sensory neurons reduces ischemia/reperfusion-induced acute renal injury in rats.
