Bairong Shen works as a Professor and Director at the Center for Systems Biology of Soochow University, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. He received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry from Soochow University, China, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China, and Fudan University, Shanghai, China, respectively. Shen served as an Associate Professor of physical chemistry at Fudan University, Shanghai, China, in 1999. Before 1999, Shen’ s research was about theoretical and computational surface chemistry, he investigated chemical reactions catalyzed by metals and alloys by ab initio and semiempirical quantum mechanical methods. After 1999, Shen started his research in bioinformatics as a Postdoc in University of Tampere, Tampere, Finland, and then he was recruited as an Assistant professor of bioinformatics there in the beginning of 2004. Since 2006, he has worked as a Guest Professor at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He joined Soochow University, China and established a center for systems biology in 2008. Shen has taught more than 10 different courses in bioinformatics and systems biology and published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in different journals which cover physics, chemistry, biology, and computational science. His recent researches focus on bioinformatics and systems biology of complex diseases.
