Javier Moreno earned a degree in biological sciences (1987), completed a dissertation at the Department of Genetics (1988), and obtained an Advanced Diploma in cell biology (1991) from the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain. He received the Ph.D. degree in immunology (1994) from the same university. He served as a Postdoctoral Scholar, as an Improvement Scholar ISCIII, and as an Advanced Degree Specialist at the National Microbiology Center, the Carlos III Health Institute (Instituto de Salud Carlos III, ISCIII) (1994-2004). He held the post of a Researcher (RyC) at the Biological Investigations Center (CSIC) from 2005 to 2008 and worked as a Visiting Professor of microbiology at the Molecular Biology Department, UAM, from 2007 to 2010. He serves currently as a Senior Researcher and as the Head of the Immunoparasitology Unit at the Centro Nacional de Microbiología of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. He has participated in more than 17 multinational collaboration research projects on leishmaniasis particularly in the fields of immunity and vaccinology. He has received funding from several European bodies. In addition, he is a Member of the Scientific Advice Working Party of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for human leishmaniasis vaccine. He has supervised more than five postgraduate students. He has published more than 36 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and book chapters and has acted as an Invited Speaker at more than 20 international conferences.
