Francesco Nicotra obtained the Laurea degree (cum laude) in 1973 from University of Catania, Catania, Italy. From 2009 till 2012, Nicotra has been working as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Milano-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. From 2002 to 2008, Nicotra served as Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences, University of Milano-Bicocca, in 2000 was Full Professor of organic chemistry at University of Milano-Bicocca, and in 1987 occupied the position of Associated Professor at University of Milan, Milan, Italy. In 2001, Nicotra was Titular Member of the IUPAC Division of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry, in 2006 was Chairman of the Subcommittee of Biotechnology of IUPAC, and in 2002–2008 was President of the Carbohydrate Group of the Italian Chemical Society. Furthermore, Nicotra is Member of Editorial Board of Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry, Current Carbohydrate Research, Trends in Carbohydrate Research, Open Glycoscience, International Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry, and Letters in Organic Chemistry. Nicotra received Award for Research in Carbohydrate Chemistry (Medaglia Berti) in 2012 and Award for Research of the Italian Chemical Society in 2011. Nicotra has 160 publications on international scientific journals with IF, 16 chapters of books, and 9 patents. Nicotra's scientific interests concern the design, synthesis, and characterisation of organic compounds of biological and pharmaceutical interest and the study of molecular interactions and their applications to biomedicine and systems biology.
