Michele Simonato works as a Professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the Medical School of the University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy; Chair of a joint task force of the International League against Epilepsy and of the American Epilepsy Society for the optimization of the development of new antiepilepsy therapies; and Vice-President of the Italian Institute of Neuroscience. Dr. Simonato received his M.D. degree at the University of Ferrara and was trained at the University of Florence (Florence, Italy), University of Alabama at Birmingham (Ala, USA), and Duke University (Durham, NC, USA). His laboratory focuses on the development of new therapeutic approaches for epilepsy, in particular on gene therapy strategies to prevent epileptogenesis. Simonato is the author of about 100 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals, of 7 chapters in scientific books, and of 10 chapters in teaching books, and he is a member of 8 scientific societies.
